EWS Network’s Port of Southampton terminal ‘highly commended’
EWS Network’s award winning rail freight terminal at the Port of Southampton was highly commended by judges at the National Rail Awards held in London last night.
The highly commended status joins the award for innovation recently won by the terminal at the International Freighting Weekly awards.
In the last year, EWS Network completed a successful enhancement programme at its terminal in the Port of Southampton that trebled the number of containers the facility could handle, more than doubled the number of trains that could be served and reduced the time it took to load a train by 50%.
The National Rail Awards judges stated that this is not a story of building brand new terminals, but using skilful techniques to increase throughput by a factor of seven, creating new paths that have been eagerly snapped up.
At the same event, EWS was also shortlisted for the Safety Award for new points installed at yards, while Wayne Millard, a Mobile Engineering Team Member for EWS, was shortlisted in the Outstanding Personal Contribution category for his dedication and commitment to delivering services as promised for customers.
