Southampton keeps on delivering six days a week
EWS Network has responded to customer demand on two key rail routes from the Port of Southampton by enhancing intermodal container services to Widnes and Manchester Trafford Park.
Container trains previously ran five days a week from Mondays to Fridays from the Port of Southampton to Widnes and Manchester Trafford Park. As a result of customer demand for more capacity to these inland terminals at weekends, these EWS Network trains are now operating from Mondays to Saturdays.
David Cross, Sales & Marketing Manager for EWS Network, said: “EWS Network continues to adapt its services from the Port of Southampton to ensure trains meet customer demand. We are pleased to meet the needs of customers using Widnes and Trafford Park with services on Saturdays. This not only creates additional opportunities to move more containers by rail during the week, it also provides the capacity to increase the volume of containers moved by rail.”
The terminal operated by EWS Network at the Port of Southampton was recently awarded the International Freighting Weekly award for Innovation. The award commended a successful enhancement programme that trebled the number of containers the facility could handle, more than doubled the number of trains that could be served and cut the time it took to load a train by 50%.
